I believe all patients deserve care that acknowledges their preferences as well as their value as human beings. The person should never be lost in the process, whether this means providing timely care in cases of acute illness or helping a family determine goals of care as a patient approaches end-of-life. I value connection and authenticity in my relationships with patients. I also believe humor is a vital component in this space, whether with patients or coworkers. Life is short and work is hard, so we may as well enjoy it!
