About James Wilkerson
Dr. James Wilkerson became a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with a subspecialty in hands because in medical school he recognized the importance surgery has in the improvement of a patient’s life. He believed surgeons had more tools at their disposal to treat and heal. His philosophy is to be engaged and caring with every person and their problems or challenges. Dr. Wilkerson went to the Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. He then went on to an internship and residency at the University of Maryland Medical Center and Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Maryland. He was then selected for the Robert E. Carroll Fellowship in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery at Columbia University Medical Center in New York, New York. He completed his training in 2014. During his time as an orthopedic surgeon he has published and presented numerous articles and research projects focused on the surgical techniques and care of hand and upper extremity injuries. He is a past member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand Volunteer Services Committee and has served with the Foundation for Orthopedic Trauma Mission to Port-au-Prince, Haiti in 2013 and the 2000 Operation Smile Mission to Da-Nang, Vietnam. His current clinical interests are centered around hand, wrist, and elbow trauma in children and adults, compressive neuropathies, and arthritis. Dr. Wilkerson was raised in Northern New Jersey and now lives in Cumberland with his wife, also a physician, and his two children. He enjoys skiing, hiking, fishing, running, and boating.
