About Jonas Gricius
Dr. Gricius has happily worked at Northern Light since 2014, honored to be a part of a team of skilled and compassionate professionals helping patients with Urologic needs. He enjoys all aspects of Urological care, and is especially interested in minimally invasive and robotic surgery, as well as in the diagnosis and treatment of urological cancers.
A native of Europe, Dr. Gricius was informally introduced to Urology at a young age - his father was the first Pediatric Urologist in Lithuania. A more direct experience with medicine came at age 16, when he began volunteering at a hospital in the capital city of Vilnius. It was there that he observed his first surgery; he was fascinated by the surgeon’s technique and the tremendous positive impact the procedure had on that patient’s well-being.
Dr. Gricius attended medical school at one of Europe’s oldest universities, Vilnius University. After completing a five-year surgical training, he and his wife, a pediatrician who grew up in the U.S., moved to New York in 2002 in pursuit of higher educational and life opportunities. Dr. Gricius completed six years of residency training in Syracuse, New York, and is Board Certified in Urology. Though he has traveled through many regions of the United States, it is in Maine that he and his family have truly found home.
Dr. Gricius values family, friends, music - he sang with a semi-professional choir for more than two decades and still enjoys playing piano. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling with his wife and three kids, gardening with the “help” of their dog, and grilling in the company of their menagerie of backyard chickens.
Few are fortunate to have had several truly great mentors in life, and Dr. Gricius counts this among his blessings. From them he has learned both diagnostic and technical skills, but perhaps the most important lesson is the one which guides him in every clinical interaction and decision: it is the patient’s well-being that always comes first.
