About Kaede Johnson

Kaede (she/her) is a certified nurse-midwife who completed her master's in midwifery through Frontier Nursing University.

Hello! I’m Kaede (“kah-eh-deh”). I was born in southern Japan and raised mostly on the central coast of California. I eventually moved to Maine after meeting my partner in the Peace Corps (he was born in Lewiston). I became a nurse through the University of Southern Maine and developed my OBGYN care foundation at InterMed in Portland, Northern Navajo Medical Center in New Mexico, and Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains. We and our two kids are now happily settled in Ellsworth, where we have overly ambitious dreams for gardening and check out more books from the library than we’ll read.

As a midwife, I will be with you to listen and to ensure you have the information you need to make decisions about your sexual and reproductive wellbeing. My hope is to build a warm, respectful, and safe relationship together so we can talk openly without judgment. In my practice, I celebrate the wide range of what is 'normal' for our bodies. I lean toward a gentle, low-intervention style of care; however, if an intervention is needed to keep you safe or help you reach your goals, we’ll talk through those options!

In our clinic the midwives generally focus on pregnancy, labor/birth, and postpartum care, but we also enjoy seeing you for annual GYN visits, paps, and GYN issues. We can also do initial evaluations for fertility concerns and support you through pregnancy loss. I particularly love care around STIs, birth control (including IUD and Nexplanon placement/removal), pregnancy options, and hormonal differences/changes across the lifespan. I’ve completed additional training to become a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner and am looking to continue to grow in my ability to provide pregnancy/postpartum mood support and gender-affirming care.
