Matthew Sharbaugh, DO

I am a general surgeon who focuses on minimally invasive and robotic surgery. I chose minimally invasive surgery to help people return to their life faster after hernia surgery, reflux (heartburn) surgery, and weight loss surgery. I am excited to bring minimally invasive techniques to patients in Maine where traditional open surgical techniques are primarily done. I love seeing the patients have faster recovery and less postoperative pain compared to their expectations of open surgery.

I am a teacher and educator of robotic surgery. This allows me to continue to hone my technique and skill set while bringing minimally invasive surgical techniques to a wider breadth of patients. I take great pride in minimally invasive surgery and advancing robotics throughout the region.

I am from Hartford, Connecticut and have been in Bangor, Maine for three years. I am married with 2 small kids and a dog. I enjoy playing golf at Penobscot Valley country club or hiking in city forest. I maintain a community garden plot in Bangor where I cultivate and grow my own produce and often share this with the office which is important to me.  

Our entire robotic surgical team is some of the most advanced in the state and provides some the highest volume robotic surgery in the region.  That allows us to bring tremendous experience and expertise to patient care. By bringing advanced minimally invasive and robotic surgical techniques to many different types of patients we are able to fully make a difference in the life and ability to return back to normal activity faster than traditional surgery.
