About Suzanne Norgang

“Birth is not only about making babies. Birth is about making mothers--strong, competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength.” --Barbara Katz Rothman

Midwife means "with woman.” As a child I knew I wanted to be a midwife. When I work with a client I see it as a partnership. It is a great privilege to be with women and families through meaningful transitions. I feel women make their best choices about their bodies, their babies, their births, and their lives when they are prepared, informed, heard, and supported. That is my ongoing goal. I love helping women find their way through birth and health.

I have been practicing midwifery since 2004 and I have delivered babies in big city hospitals, small rural hospitals, birth centers, and at home. Midwifery includes women's health and helping women choose a birth control option, navigate menopause. Making health choices that help them to be their best is another part of this work that I love. Over the years, one thing I’ve observed is this: with time women often forget what was said to them but they rarely forget the way we made them feel. I believe there is no one right way to give birth, there is no one right way to breastfeed, or to navigate menopause or puberty.

I live in Blue Hill with my husband Tim and our four children. In the fall and winter, I love to knit, especially cabled sweaters in the traditional fisherman style. When spring comes, I tend to put my needles away to enjoy long runs. My favorite hobbies are knitting and sailing.
