About Thomas Murray
Dr. Thomas Murray, Jr., MD became an orthopedic surgeon 22 years ago to provide care in a way that everyone would like to receive it. He believes in a convenient, personal, detailed, and empathetic care philosophy. He began his career in healthcare as a physical therapist, giving him a unique perspective on sports injuries and recoveries. His pre-medical education garnered him a Summa Cum Laude designation. He then went to medical school at the University of Connecticut and stayed to perform his internship and residency where he was awarded the Daniel J. Cavosos Resident of the Year Award 1997-1998. He was then selected to undergo a fellowship in shoulder surgery and sports medicine at the Southern California Orthopedic Institute, in Los Angeles, CA. Dr. Murray has held multiple leadership positions as an orthopedic physician to include Chair of the Department of Surgery at Northern Light Mercy, a directorship and managing partner at OA Spectrum, and various chair and a board position in the Southern Maine Orthopedic Management Company. He is a widely published physician with 9 publications and 17 research presentations, along with multiple guest lecturer invitations all focused on the various non-surgical and surgical treatments with sports related injuries and the improvement of outcomes. He also enjoys teaching at the University of New England in the Athletic Training and Physical Therapy programs. He is also one of the most experienced Team Physician in our community, serving multiple high schools, universities, and local sports teams to include the Maine Mariners ECHL Hockey Team, the Portland Pirates AHL Hockey Team, and the Maine Red Claws D League Basketball Team. Dr. Murray’s clinical area of expertise is sports medicine and shoulder replacement. He was born in Connecticut and lives in Falmouth and has two daughters both in college. He enjoys cycling, gardening, and traveling when he gets the chance.
